About

Background and Approach

Has this experience ever happened to you? You pick up a book that comes highly recommended, maybe it's even from a bestseller list or an award recipient, but when you open it up, you find excessive swearing, open-door bedroom scenes, or unnecessary violence. You've worked so hard to fill your life with goodness in other areas of your life: the shows you watch, the social media accounts you choose to follow (or not), and even the friends you spend your time with, but books remain an elusive mystery.

This happened to me just yesterday. On a day when I was trying not to spend too much time on my phone or other screens, I had brought a paperback to a doctor's appointment. The book had won multiple awards and was on several lists of books you should read before you die, but on page one, I ran into multiple instances of unnecessary swearing and other content I would rather avoid. I put it down, discouraged. Why is it so hard to find a good book? And why is it so hard to know if the book you chose will be one you want to read? In this space, I'm walking this road with you. My goal is to find and share insights from books and authors who are providing inspiring content without all the unnecessary extras.

Because reading can be powerful, life-changing even and I want you to have access to that kind of inspiration in your life.

I also aim, as an author, to create this kind of content. I share essays, poetry, short stories, and (hopefully one day) novels where I focus on content that aims to inspire, educate, and entertain. I know I am not alone in wanting to connect over good literature. I hope you will join me by signing up for my newsletter, or following me on Instagram or Substack. I'd love to hear your own thoughts and insights on the good literature you are reading. Then the next time I'm waiting at a doctor's appointment, I can settle into a good book rather than the discouragement that comes from the wrong kind of novel.
